Abstract

At the present time laparoscopic herniorrhaphy appears to be succesfully performed by utilizing a preperitoneal approach. The major indications are bilateral hernia and recurrent hernia. Other routine hernias may be done at the decision of the surgeon and patient depending upon the necessity of rapid return to work and desire to minimize pain. Utilizing this approach, the recurrent rate in some reports at the present time is less than 1%, This paper presents the history, review of laparoscopic preperitoneal approach, and the atlas of totally extraperitoneal (TEP) approach which is illustrated and performed by the author at Thammasat university hospital.
