Abstract

At present, treatment of asthma is progressively improved, so favourable outcomes are usually found inmost asthmatic patients. Refractory asthmatic patients are now rarely encountered. However, this group of patientshas problems in management, including diagnosis, correction of exacerbating factors, pharmacotherapy selection andmonitoring of disease progression. Thus, further study concerning definition, pathophysiology, clinical manifestations, natural history of disease and evidences about response to various drugs and other treatment modalities, includingadverse effects of these treatments, are necessary. All of these data should be considered together to appropriatelytreat refractory asthmatic patients for the best outcome.
